Farid Sheek

Farid was born in Isfahan, Iran. As the son of a famous Iranian musician, he grew up with the sounds of traditional Eastern music. At a young age he learned to play Iran’s ancient percussion instrument, the daf. The daf is an Iranian percussion instrument best known in the context of Sufi rituals. Farid manages to extract a whole range of sounds from the daf instrument with his creativity. By playing with speed he manages to get both high tones and very low deep sounds from this instrument. Given that Kalpanarts’ work always contains a strong rhythmic element, and Farid is a rhythm master, he is ideally suited for In Two Minds. In the Netherlands he studied at Albeda College. Since then, his music career has flourished. He has collaborated with the Residentie Orkest and Rana Gorgani. In 2019 Kalpanarts already had an inspiring collaboration with Farid for Wanderlust, a festival of the Residentie Orkest.
